{"id":528,"date":"2015-10-14T22:01:04","date_gmt":"2015-10-14T19:01:04","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.petalsofafrica.org\/blog\/?p=528"},"modified":"2015-10-14T22:08:05","modified_gmt":"2015-10-14T19:08:05","slug":"528","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.petalsofafrica.org\/blog\/?p=528","title":{"rendered":"Head Teacher &#8211; new job posting"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\"><b>Job Title:<\/b><span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00c2\u00a0 <\/span>Head Teacher<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\"><b>Place of Work: <\/b>Ngochoni Petals of Africa School<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\"><b>Department\/Unit:<\/b> Academic<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\"><b>Working Hours<\/b>: Full time<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\"><b>Salary Range<\/b>: To be negotiated with the right candidate<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\"><b>Supervisory role: <\/b>Teaching and non-teaching staff<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\"><b>Size of Work force: <\/b>20 staff<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\"><b>Reports to<\/b>: School Board of Directors<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\"><b>Works with<\/b>: Bursar, Board of Directors, School Management Committee<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\"><b>Job Purpose<\/b>:<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">The purpose of the position of Head Teacher is to <b>educate students in a sound environment, based on Christian Science, which maintains high moral and academic standards.<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\"><b>Duties and Responsibilities:<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">It is the responsibility of the Head Teacher to oversee all matters related to the students\u00e2\u20ac\u2122 and teachers\u00e2\u20ac\u2122 experiences at the School.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00c2\u00a0 <\/span>These include curriculum, teaching and learning materials, organization of dormitory life, meals and co-curricular activities (e.g., music, sports, etc.), and professional development of teachers.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00c2\u00a0 <\/span>The Head Teacher is responsible for maintaining records showing the School\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s defined, recognized curriculum that is in line with local\/national curriculum, including character education, and the related pedagogy.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00c2\u00a0 <\/span>In addition, teacher-training must be provided including on-going professional development and guidance in how to inculcate Christian character.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">The Head Teacher works cooperatively with the Bursar to make decisions which support the fiscal status and are feasible within the physical structure of the School.\u00c2\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">The Head Teacher is also responsible for making clear to the teachers, students and parents the Christian Science basis of school. This can be done through meetings with incoming families to explain Christian Science and how that is the basis of the School; assemblies and meetings for the students and teachers with readings from the Bible and <i>Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures; <\/i>talks and discussions when appropriate; hymns from Christian Science Hymnal; sharing Christian Science periodicals; and, inviting students to attend Sunday School.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\"><b>Working Conditions<\/b> <\/span><span class=\"s2\">(<i>travel, work space, etc.<\/i>)<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00c2\u00a0 <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s2\">The Head Teacher works at the School each day and has a centrally-located office.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00c2\u00a0 <\/span>Occasional local and national travel may be required.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00c2\u00a0 <\/span>The Head Teacher usually works each day when School is in session, and usually for at least part of each school holiday period.\u00c2\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\"><b>Minimum Level of Education:<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">The Head Teacher must hold at least a baccalaureate degree and must maintain an active schedule of professional development for her\/himself.\u00c2\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\"><b>Skills required<\/b>: <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s2\">Good analytical skills is an asset for this position since the head teacher will be required to analyze situations, scenarios and data to make appropriate decisions in consultation with the Board of Directors.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\"><b>Competencies required<\/b>:<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Head Teacher must be a Christian Scientist, and must have been actively studying and practicing Christian Science for at least 5 years, and be a member of the Mother Church.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00c2\u00a0 <\/span>It is preferred that the Head Teacher also have had class instruction in Christian Science.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">The Head Teacher must be a good steward of property and facilities, including both technological and non-technological assets.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\"><b>Qualifications\/Trainings Required<\/b>: <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s2\">A P1 training or diploma in education coupled with a bachelor\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s degree in Education is mandatory<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\"><b>Prior Experience<\/b>:<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">The Head Teacher should have had a minimum of 10 years classroom\/teaching experience five of which should be as a head teacher in primary or secondary grades.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00c2\u00a0 <\/span>Additional experience as a school administrator is preferred.\u00c2\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\"><b>Technical Skills Required<\/b>: <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">The Head Teacher should be knowledgeable about the uses of instructional technology and the uses of technology for administrative purposes.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00c2\u00a0 <\/span>Proficiency in MS office suite is mandatory.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\"><b>Language Skills Required<\/b>:<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">The Head Teacher must be skilled in the use of written and spoken English and Swahili.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00c2\u00a0 <\/span>Proficiency in the use of local languages is an asset.\u00c2\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\"><b>Physical Requirements<\/b>: <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">The head teacher must be physically fit to handle the pressure that comes with the responsibility of running a learning institution<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\"><b>Legal Requirements<\/b>: <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">The candidate must a Kenyan national or if not, possess a valid working permit.<\/span><\/p>\n<p
